Zanzibar is a straightforward island for families, provided you plan the long transfers around the children rather than the other way round.
Child seats
Child seats are not standard in Zanzibar taxis, so request one when you book and state the child's age and weight.
Give as much notice as you can — a good seat has to be arranged in advance, not found on arrival.
Planning the drive
A north or east coast transfer can run 60–90 minutes in the heat. Travel right after landing while energy lasts, or pick a flight that lands in the morning.
Bring water, snacks and a change of clothes in your hand luggage; checked bags stay in the boot.
