The east coast is the kitesurfing and long-beach side of the island. Transfers there are shorter than to Nungwi but end on narrow lanes where local knowledge saves real time.
Timing
Paje is usually 50–60 minutes from the airport, Jambiani and Bwejuu a few minutes more, and Michamvi up to 75 minutes depending on your hotel.
The road crosses the centre of the island through Jozani forest — keep an eye out for red colobus monkeys near the road.
Finding your hotel
East coast accommodation is spread along kilometres of beach, often signposted only with a small wooden board on the main road.
Send your hotel name and, if you have it, a location pin when you book. A driver who knows the coast will take you to the right entrance rather than the nearest one.
Adding a stop
Many guests ask to stop for a SIM card, an ATM in Stone Town, or a supermarket before checking in.
Say so when you book. A short planned stop is easy to include; an unplanned detour with a tight schedule is not.
