Licensing and experience
Ask how long the driver has worked on the island and whether the vehicle is licensed for tourist transport. Years of local experience show up in route choices you never notice.
A driver who answers clearly in writing before you arrive will usually be equally clear on the day.
The car
Working air conditioning, seat belts front and back, a clean non-smoking interior and enough boot space for your actual luggage.
Ask for a photo of the car. Anyone proud of their vehicle will send one immediately.
Red flags
Vague prices, pressure to pay a deposit through an untraceable channel, or a quote that changes once you have landed.
Also be wary of anyone unwilling to give a name and number you can save. Booking is a relationship, not a transaction at a curb.
